 | CCHT seeks input on Clover Field Marketplace in Chaska 5/15/2006 4:10 PMCHASKA MN (May 16, 2006) - Twin Cities-based nonprofit developer Central Community Housing Trust (CCHT) will hold a public meeting on May 18 to hear ideas from the community regarding Clover Field Marketplace, CCHT’s first mixed use affordable housing development in a new, traditionally designed suburban neighborhood of Clover Field, in western Chaska. CCHT will begin construction on the site in late fall.
The event will be held at Chaska Community Center on 1661 Park Ridge Drive from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
“Everyone is welcome to participate,” said CCHT Vice President of Housing Development Gina Ciganik. “Community input is critical to ensure the success of this development.” The meeting aims to gather thoughts and ideas from neighbors, businesses, residents, and others on what types of businesses they would like to see in the approximately 10,000 square feet of commercial space which is part of the development.
The Clover Field Marketplace (formerly known as The Sinclair) will consist of two buildings with 115 rental units, approximately half of which will be affordable to families of four earning $47,000 or less annually. The units include efficiencies, one- to three-bedroom apartments, and two-story, town home-style units.
Gina Ciganik said the intention of this project is to design a building that will complement the surrounding neighborhood architecture and be well integrated into the community, while underground parking will allow room for a landscaped courtyard and a structured play space for younger children.
Chaska has garnered praise for Clover Field's intentional design, featuring a neighborhood center, diverse housing options, and walkable streets. CCHT’s building will be Clover Field's primary source of multi-family rental housing.
CCHT hopes that Clover Field Marketplace will become a model of affordable housing development in an outer-ring suburb. Ciganic said Clover Field Marketplace will "turn some of the false impressions of what affordable housing has to be on its ear. The community’s input will be of the essence to make this happen. "
The project is CCHT's second development outside Minneapolis but first in a suburban location. Its first project is the renovation of a historic warehouse in St. Paul’s Lowertown to create efficiency apartments, which will celebrate its grand opening this fall.
“The possibilities for providing affordable housing in suburban communities are limitless," said Ciganik. “But to create a fully integrated and enhanced community, input from the people who create and live in a community must be at the front and center."
