Green Design for a Better FutureBuilding quality places for people to live, work and grow
At a time when the housing and construction industries are mired in complacency about quality and sustainability, Aeon creates places that incorporate human-focused design principles learned from research on quality communities worldwide. Many Aeon properties have won design, green building and preservation awards.
Aeon believes in building places that are functional for the people living there, and use resources most optimally. Aeon’s Impact Design philosophy is significantly inspired by the work of Christopher Alexander in “A Pattern Language” and Oscar Newman in “Defensible Space.” Aeon's Impact Design approach helps ensure that every part of the built environment in Aeon projects has a positive impact on livability.
Aeon also positions green building as the future of affordable housing in its Impact Design work. Green building is about a more productive use of land, better air quality, lower energy cost, transit efficiencies, and more sustainable materials and methods. Read about green building myths here.
Many Aeon properties have cleaned up polluted land and preserved existing buildings. In 2005, Aeon was recognized by Minnesota Green Communities for the design of The Wellstone and Ripley Gardens. These two projects are an example of green building design. They incorporate on-site storm-water management, Energy Star appliances, washing machines, occupancy sensors, low-flow toilets, CEE5 energy modeling, sub-metered electricity, and solar hot water to conserve energy resources.
Aeon is committed as a quality leader, and will continue to work with communities, partners, funders and contractors towards a more sustainable and quality future for all.
