Renaissance Box: Creating a Downtown Home Aeon plans to transform Renaissance Box – a vacant historic landmark – into a vibrant residential building offering 70 efficiency, one- and two-bedroom apartment homes. The property will offer a wide range of affordability and is located within close proximity to a variety of employment opportunities in downtown St. Paul.
Aeon purchased the mostly vacant building out of a foreclosure situation in 2006. The historic restoration will bring capital investment to the Wacouta Commons neighborhood during a challenging real estate market.
Preserving St. Paul's history in a sustainable way The Renaissance Box, built in 1914, was home to one of Minnesota's largest shoe manufacturers: the O’Donnell Shoe Factory.
To honor the historic past of the building, Aeon has helped place the site on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, Aeon is working with The National Park Service (NPS) to obtain a Historic Preservation Certification. All improvements to the building must meet NPS standards.
Through a partnership with the University of Minnesota’s Center for Sustainable Building Research and the Green Institute, green and sustainable principles will be incorporated to decrease energy costs and minimize the development's environmental impact.
